Ps3 surround sound output question?

I have recently bought a Tritton Ax Pro headset for my Ps3. The decoder is recieving a 2 channel signal from the Ps3 and not a dolby digital signal. The settings on my Ps3 via fibre optic are set to Dolby 5.1 but the decoder says its only getting a 2 channel signal.
