Question about my period...?

So my period came yesterday, it was on time, but i had unusually bad cramps. Now today everything was fine until around 8 pm. All of a sudden it just got really heavy. Like a bright red and super heavy, I needed like 4 tampons in about 20 min. Then there was a huge jelly clump of blood. And then it went back to normal. Does this happen to people? or should i be worried?
